drive in movies

i was here last time and wanted to comment about the great drive in movie pics. there are so few around in that condition where you get to see the whole inner workings of the drive in that was once the staple of weekend entertainment. i love exploring old drive inns but over the years have found none and ive explored about 12 or so in the great condition that that one was in. awsome pics i really enjoyed them. my first actual date was at a drive in in seekonk. mass  the seekonk twin was the name in 1984. i miss them cause there are none left around in my area. as part of my exploring i collect a trinket from what ever site i visit without causing damage.  i would love to obtain a speaker from a drive in, because they were using radio low frequency band am when i was there. i was curious if you  saw any there because of what was left was so much more complete than any of the ones ive seen. im going to try and make a trip up there and see that one just because of the pics you took. ib guys did a great job again. another piece of history my children will never see.

Nut, there is still an active drive in on rt 146 in north smithfield open all summer long from like april till oct its called the rustic and used to be an adult film drive-in but changed in the 90's or so. only an hour or so from Southern ri rt95 to 146.

Hey Millitary Nut,
Thanks for the words.  The drive-in that may be off 146 in MA had no speakers left, just some junction boxes at the top of the poles.  Each and every one seemed to be missing a loudspeaker.

i knew about the one still open lmao but i thought it was still showing the porn movies. couldnt talk the wife into going for the nolstagic purposes. the speakers are a rare item in the new england area, but im still looking. ive been down south and have seen dozens of them still open but those all like arounf here went to the low frequency radio am bands in the early 80s. thanks for the reply, and i really enjoy the work ib does

there is a drive in that is open during the summer in wellfleet MA and also in the leominster fitchburg area too, for what it's worth.

ive been to a porn drive in it was located in pine grove, pa. i went when i was 17 with my then boyfriend now hubby, i was kind of in shock, never having seen that stuff, and i was just laughing so much because you didnt see anyone in their cars until intermission and then all these heads popped up....i know it has nothing to do with exploration but that  porn reference got me all worked up hahaha

a little further north...but northfield drive-in, about 1/4 mile into new hampshire, i think on rt 63 is still open...they do a quad-feature every labor day...

also, one of my roommates from PA told me about a porno drive-in that used to be near his house....i had never heard of it before that, but i think it sounds fun

i found a speaker. i was at an old drive in in west port, its now an annex for a big steel company. i asked the yard attendant for permission to take a couple of pics of the big screen. well he was cool with it and let me poke around a little to. the screen is far gone and beat, and there are a few of the playground rides still there. well there was a booth there with a little closet in it some neat things were there, lol none were drive in related, a sex toy and some porn books. well as i was about to leave i worked my way around the far side of the big screen. to my amazement in a little door into the screen its self i found 2 speakers. one was smashed and the window hook was gone, the other had everything including a nice sized hornets nest in it. i got stung three times but killed the little bastards and got my prize.  i got it home and with some wd40 and some love i was able to get it open and there was  a speaker in there. it was shot but i just took an old speaker out of an old radio and replaced it. the speaker its self needs some love(alot of rust) but certainly not a hopeless case. i was like a teen who got my first piece of ass i was so excited. 12 years of searching finally over.

I don't know wether or not it has been mentioned in this forum, and for that matter, it may be hardly worth mentioning for the fact that the site is in ruins and hardly recognizable as a drive-in theater, though I thought I would mention anyway that there is one in North Kingstown, behind Tarbox Toyota on Rte 1.

Apart from the fact alone that it was once a drive-in, I don't know anything else about it.

I just thought it might be useful as fodder for further discussion.
