The Fringes of Ladd School

This is more of an inquiry, I was wondering if anyone had explored the edges of Ladd (past the water tower and such).  I noticed down the road at the Queens River Nature Preserve there is some odd stuff.  First there are two rather old cellar holes just past the entrance, but they're filled with 1970-80s junk.  A little ways down on the right there is this metal pole that mentions an underground bell or telephone line.  There's a sign for it a little ways down, then it ends...
The road continues until it hits Queens River, and there is actually a bridge over the river (random?)  I didn't go past it, but looking at old aerial pics didn't show anything there in the 30s.

Oh, and one last question, is there a dump at Ladd School that anyone knows of?

Not that I know of.  I know a lot of the place was torn up for Job Corps, like the old pool building.

If you can find the pictures of the Ladd pool on the internet, that same site will likely have more information about what was at Ladd before Job Corps came through.  Lots of buildings came down for that and I'm wondering if a potential dump would have gone with it...however, that doesn't mean there isn't a large one nearby.  I kind of find it interesting that it's Exeter's Main St, so maybe along the fringes isn't a good place to look?  I'll take a look on Google Earth and see if I see a potential anywhere :)

I'm thinking your dump might be found on the fringes of Job Corps rather than Ladd :-/  Take a look on Google Earth and you'll see what I mean.  SE corner of Ladd, E of Job Corps, near the swamp.

It's hard to make an educated guess on this location since Job Corps and the Vet cemetery could have been put on top or bulldozed out.

Thanks for the tips!  I'd like to look around, but I've been busy and I'm still wary of the whole trespassing thing.  Does the Job Corps own all of Ladd School?  If so, there's a remote chance one could gain legal access if they were in a good mood.

not likely ,ladd is most definetly haunted, gives me bad vibes, even on a quiet day you can almost hear kids voices echoing off the trees or dogs barking.. its strange. also one of my buddies laid down in the morgue draw on a stunt, and he doesnt talk about it, he is brave'r than I lol they beef'd up security after harold picked up a jug of acid and ran away with it and dropped it on himself cuz he's a fool lol anyways good luck theres just too many people around to be there without being noticed and they also buldozed/renovated  most of the good buildings..

Check this out-      http://www.opacity.us/site80_the_ladd_school.htm

Not saying that theres not a possiblity that its haunted, but as for the barking, thats most likely just the fisher cats that are in the woods around there.

those fishercats are no joke you dont wanna fuck with them.

haha deffinatly not planning on fucking with one of them things

damn that little thing sounds like the lady that yelled at me and omni near enchanted forest lmao!

That was no Women who yelled at us, that was a Bitch in a bad marriage

i woulda left my wife their with the fishercat. fuck if i was the man and said put the dog on the leash that means put the fuckin thing on a leash. not sit and go ruby no stay sit here ruby ruby ruby. dumb broad

The state still owns the land and the buildings that are not in use. The Phoenix House, Job Corps, and US Dept of Agriculture rent the buildings from the state. So long and short is no the Job Corp can not grant you access. However Exeter does not and probably never will have a police force. However the town has three State Troopers on permanent detail. Their job is to cover the entire town from North Kingstown to Connecticut, big area. The state also allows all depts in RI plus some from MA and CT to perform k-9 training there, hence the sense that there are always police around.

I've explored some of the area with friends but it was more of a hassle than fun.

I think this is the backup power station for the area but I could be wrong.

Another building in use.

Some type of filled in well. there were about four of these lining a dirt road.

This was atop a ridge with a bench looking out on a swamp. In back of that was this.

I didn't attempt to explore this building.

Any luck on finding the dump? I used to love picking through the dump at met, found tons of old soda bottles and other knicknacks

Tmac, I used my metal detector over there this fall. At one of the cellar holes I found colonial artifacts but nothing to write hoem about. It wasnt until after I finished digging that I found that sign stating there's an underground wire. That woulda sucked big time. If you research the history of Exeter, that area was all farmland at one time. On rt 2 across from Exeter CC are some original houses (albeit updated) and the old water mill.

yeah they're currently making the ladd school into a fire fighting school... what a shame

since when is ladd being made into a fire fighting school?

Well now the kids have yet another reason to believe it's haunted: http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/local_news/west_bay/human-remains-in-exeter-is-a-man

I also saw and read this in the news.

In fact
this is actually one of my worst fears while exploring.  There are always a few situations that play out in my head during dangerous explorations:

1.) I really hope no gets hurt while exploring.  (i.e. someone breaks their leg, falls and becomes paralyzed, etc.)
2.) Finding a dead body. > This thought has crossed my mind many times. I mean think about it--we are exploring places where the common person doesn't usually venture.
3.) Getting arrested.  > I've run from cops before, exhilarating but scary as shit!
4.) Getting attacked. > During one explore, we almost got jumped. (the thought "If i die here, will anyone find me?" crossed my mind)

I'm much more fearful of getting arrested than stumbling across a dead body.  As for getting attacked, don't sweat it dude.  I just try to be as aware of my surroundings as I can when I'm in a spot where someone might not find me for a while if something went wrong.  I was at B-Town a few weeks ago and I had myself convinced that a squatter was in there with me, due to the evidence I was finding.  Def a weird feeling.

lololol that's funny man.  I've come across a homeless encampment. they were sleeping though in a make shift tent. definitely a weird feeling for sure.

A few years back, I wasn't exploring but just taking a walk at Harkness and stumbled upon two homeless people sleeping.  Almost literally, I was like...who the hell sleeps right here?  I stuck around long enough to make sure they weren't actually dead and took off. lol

Sometimes when I get really bored I start looking at all the unidentified dead bodies databases and came across something interesting in NY--one guy found two dead bodies --two completely separate dates and locations and he was even doing different things (hiking vs. fishing) and they had to make a note that they didn't think he was a suspect. lol  Sucks to be that guy though.

damn i couldnt imagine finding a dead body.

Meg was that the Harkness State Park near Seaside Regional?  Check this out I was playing golf in Brockton this summer with a couple buddies and there were 2 homeless guys passed out on top of the 5th tee box.  Obviously it was a very exclusive country club!

Chief- YES lol

I remember this one time when I was going to college in Fairfield there used to be a homeless guy that would sleep in Dunkin Donuts because it was 24 hours or something.  I remember the first time I saw him the employees were like "Oh him...yeah...he's not dead...leave him alone."   And the resident homeless bag lady would just circle the meat section of Stop & Shop, which was right across the street.  AND...this was Fairfield County, there's some serious money down there, so I was kind of surprised.  (This part of Fairfield was next to Bridgeport though, so...like night and day.  This was before the economy went down the shitter too, like 2003.)
