Dealing with police?
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:15:26 PM »
Not just with urban exploaration, but on the whole...

If you have a run-in with the police not based on a report or ticket, but because they're suspicious bastards:
-What should you tell/not tell them?
-If they do something you're SURE is against the law, what should/can you do?
-If they assault you without reason, what are your options for defense? Can you mace them or is that still illegal?
-Are there any consequences of catching the incident on tape and reporting it to their superiours/youtubing it and punlicl humiliating them?

Catching the incident on tape and uploading it to youtube will not get you in trouble.  Remember that guy that some cops shot in the back in California?  That was uploaded to youtube and everywhere else.

There's also a human rights website that you can upload such video to http://www.witness.org/.

As for what you should tell cops, honesty is nice but "breaking and entering for fun" is a bit too honest.  If you already have a camera just say you're a photography student.  That helped me out at least once.  Another thing that helped me get out of getting arrested at NSH in 2003 was being a girl and claiming to be lost. lol

Okay, thanks.

But what if they're being assholes and over stepping their power?
If they assault you, is self defense justified or will they just get you for attacking a cop?

I DONT THINK THE POLICE WILL ASSULT YOU FOR NO REASON ..BUT IT'S PROBOBLY HAPPENED BEFORE...

IF THE POLICE ASSAULTED ME FOR NO REASON I WOULD JUST GET A LAWYER AND TRY SUEING THE TOWN FOR MONEY AND GETTING THE COP FIRED

DONT WORRY ABOUT THE POLICE...JUST ANSWER THERE QUESTIONS ...JUST TALK TO THEM.

.USALLY COPS ARE SUSPICIOUS AND WILL ASK PEOPLE QUESTIONS AND TRY TO ARREST THEM FOR SOMETHING.....JUST TRY AVIODING THE POLICE LIKE NASTYNATE

IF POLICE ASSAULTED YOU FOR NO REASON IT WOULD BE JUSTIFIED IF YOU ASSULTED THEM..BUT THEN YOU'D GET CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER AND THATS NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO BE CHARGED WITH ESCEPIALLY IF THE POLICE ASSAULTED YOU FOR NO REASON
..exactly. I wanted to know if it was justified but I guess not.

I ran a ton of stop signs yesterday, thank god there were no cops.

But...I didn't have any brakes either, so it's not like I could have stopped even if I wanted to!

LOL the brakes failed in my car and I drove it to the mechanic rather than get a tow...but I was in Stonington and my mechanic was in North Windham...so I took backroads and used downshifting to get the car to stop (or slow down enough to where I could do a California stop) totally unsafe.  The couple intersections I couldn't stop for I just blared the horn!  My husband was behind me in the jeep the whole time too, it was AWFUL...but FUN!

It cost quite a bit in repairs too :(  set me back a few months in my "get out of debt in 2009" plan...because it wasn't just the brakes, I had to have some body work done too that I'd been putting off for some time.  $1400 later my car was back on the road!

Thinking of getting vintage plates for the car, it's an 84 Saab.  But CT vintage plates say "Early American" and on a foreign car that's a big fail.

lol my man was filling out a job application for the mashantucket pharmacy (which he got!) so we were just barely in Stonington right there on Rt. 2.

I delivered mail down near NSH yesterday, why didn't you wave at the mail truck?
