Cool place to get overheads of sites... Thought it might be useful info

Terraserver is a pay sight for closeups, but if you go to
 http://terraserver.microsoft.com

you can get free overheads of anywhere in the US. Just punch in the town and you can pan and zoom from there. Imagery is 3-15 years old, but is randomly updated in certain areas. Good for finding overgrowns or hidden sites, planning entry points etc...

Interesting. Did you know that Mcdonalds is the top purchaser of satelite imagery in the world? Thats right. Scary shit... they literally use technology like this to determine where people tend to group together in order to determine valuable realestate to build new chains on. I hate it man, I hate it. Half the reason I am an Urban Explorer is to escape the fake ass commercial and chain store society that we call the United States. Thanks to FTAA, WTO, and other trade agreements the entire world will soon look like (take your pick RHode Islanders) Post Road in Warwick, Newport Ave in E.P, or Mineral Spring Ave in North Providence. Urban exploration is a way to get away from the massproduced bullshit of our states love for commerical strips, and get closer to the old world that has been forgotten. Foundries, warehouses, steel factories, train tunnels, military islands, bridges...

Sorry, this was a rant. What I meant was that I love Le Big Macs!

Slade, have you read Fast Food Nation? Have you seen Super SIze it?
There is nothing redeeming about fastfood culture, it is downright destructive to your body, your environment,  the workers, the animals and your mental space. You are assailed from birth to death. Look into it man, I really dont think you should blidly be ignorant and yell things like "I LOVE BIG MACS!" when people present an argument that fastfood companies are bad. Ignorance is bliss, its true, but if you really are an urban explorer, than you want to look beneath the surface of society and into its roots. Or maybe you just want to break windows late at nite and find old fire extinguishers to discharge. I dunno.

I agree that McShithole is probably the second most evil corporation in existence. (second only to the tobacco industry) I support anyone who wants to educate people with the facts. What I do not agree with is anyone thinking they have the right to dictate to another person what is right for them. This is still a great country because I have the right to choose what I think is best for me.
If the day ever comes when I can't say "I love big macs" then we have truly lost.
Abandoned locations can hide but they can't run

Actually, aerial photos of areas are fantastic if they're older, say 1970's.  If you have both an aerial photo of an area from 1970 and 1990, and you spot a road to a house on the older one that might be covered by trees on the newer one, well...you might have a new place to explore.  I <3 aerial photos.  And I have the link to a site that hosts aerial photos from 1934 for all of CT, but I can't load it on dial-up.   It might not work any more, but if you can load it it's pretty cool

I hide in the shadows and babble about old things.  I appear to most new members of IB.  I might beat you with my cane.

As my grandmother used to say...

"Having sex with a girl like that would be like throwing a hot dog down a hallway."

I once found a site where I could download aerial photographs from the 1930s.  The only cache was you had to download a random viewing application to see them.  I never got it to work, but it's out there for anyone interested.  I also found out that my grandfather has a complete mid-late 1800s RI atlas.  Should be great for finding older sites.
Saving history one photo at a time.
