The entire coast of Warwick neck was used as rum stops and, during prohabition, as a way to smuggle liquor into the state. several of the homes had tunnels from the water to the main house, the most famous of witch is aldrich mansion which is most likely what your friend refers to, there are several tunnels on the property and one leads to the water. Just a side note but the mansion was used in the film meet joe black a few years back. if you do a google search you should find the website with no problem but i dont think it mentions the tunnel.

Yeah, I've been real close to getting inside that tunnel.  I hear that they used to shuttle contraband and slaves through that tunnel.
