Elvis needs boats
« on: March 15, 2008, 04:20:15 PM »
So...this summer I'm looking to use boats to get to some locations.  There's a few locations that are ridiculously inaccessible by car.  Mainly I'm looking for a kayak or something, something light that I could stick on top of my car or on top of my husband's jeep or something.  (BTW, I no longer have that Grand Am I used to post pictures of, now I have a 1984 Saab 900 and it fucking rocks my socks...lol)  Preferably something the Saab can handle because the Saab barely uses any gas and the jeep...well...it's a Grand Cherokee.  You tell me how it does on gas!

So.  Anyone kayak?  What other light & tiny boats would you recommend?

I hide in the shadows and babble about old things.  I appear to most new members of IB.  I might beat you with my cane.

Kayaks like any boat are pretty pricey if your looking in RI and want to rent a kayak you can do that here.......................................................
http://www.kayakcentre.com/Rentals.html
but if your gonna do a few expeditions it may be worth buying one

and you may be able to buy a flat bottom john boat pretty cheap which are nice you can get in real close to the beach of where your going in less than a foot of water

Nice, I'm not really that fond of kayaks.  My grandfather had one of the boats you mentioned but I didn't know the name of it...and my friends and I sank the damn thing in a pond when we were 12 (and yes, we were in it.....but that's because one of my asshole friends said he patched the crack in the bottom and we didn't know he didn't have a clue till it was filling with water. lol)

No, a few other places I've found on google earth.  I'm definitely looking for a kayak now, just can't afford one.  Also can't decide what comes first, new kayak or new camera since mine's on the fritz.

Thanks for the links, I did look on Craigslist but damn those are really affordable!  Too bad the brakes on my car went yesterday :(.  Totally unexpected.
