Wompatuck bunkers

hey - how come you guys havenet been to Wompatuck state park at teh intersection of Norwell, Hingham, Scituate etc, in MA? there is a huge ex-ammo depot up there, fenced but accessible very easily. it is quite spread out and goes on for miles.

BTW its a superfund site - supposedly cleaned up, but watch what you get into over there

on the map, go to the area called "US Government Reservation" its well worth the trip, though its been over 6 years since i have been out there

hi guys ive been to the wampatuck resivation and there were many explorable bunkers and sites to check out 10 years ago. it may still hold areas of intrest to the bunkergang. iam gointo do do some traveling there soon, because its been so long and the last time i was there i didnt have my digi cam. a little known fact that many dont know about. yes it was declared a superfund site, and their 2 reasons why. alot of lead experements, and at one time a piece of the manhatten project was worked on there. as the gemtlemen said ina previous post be careful how far you poke around you may run into some bad stuff

Hey folks...  I know I am dredging up an old post, but we just visited Wompatuck and had our camera with us.  The caretakers / local authorities have seen fit to seal up or backfill much of what was at Wompatuck in the last few years, but it is still a good place to visit.

We didn't get as many pictures of the main building as I had hoped as it is all but comlpletely sealed, and without a flashlight, hard to navigate.

we have a few pics on our site, most of the buildings were pretty open, alot of old rail if you're into that, many buildings, roads, etc. Haven't seen a map of the place before it was cleaned up, so I don't know what's been covered. There seems to be a couple bunkers covered on either side of the main building, so bring a shovel.

last time i was there biking  most of them were sealed but i found about three way out of the way ones that were opend to pansy to go inside (i was by my self)

I'm super backed up picture-wise between my last 3 explorations, 2 studio shoots, a set from Ohio State Reformatory, and Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio... Good to see there's still something there. Check out some of the older satt. images and you can see alot has been knocked down over the years. The red train shop was always my favorite spot anyway, good to see it's still around. There are still bunkers all over the property, but most are locked up. Check out historicaerials and you can see where soem bunkers were removed or flooded for the reservoir at the other end of the property.

i'd love to join but i got work in Rhode Island mon-fri (sucks cause i live in mass & close to womp.)... anyways you go in through the main gate and then the first parking area on the left is the trailhead to the old buildings that are left.. you gotta jump a fence now, I was there last week and they fixed the opening that had been there since i started going there.. just follow the old roads to get around and theres also some nice old rail lines to follow. If you want to see the exterior on Bunker N-9 continue of the drivable road about a quarter mile past the visitor center and on the right is the restored bunker a little off the street. theres a path up to it

this place is well worth the trip. the pictures up here are amazing, but they dont do the place justice. u have to see it to belive how big it is

you will need a lock pick or cutter to get in but thats doable

Or you can just get in contact with the local Boy Scouts troop down there. They're the ones who restored it and give tours, from what Ive heard. Sounds a bit more legal than bolt cutters.

Is N-9 different than the other bunkers? From what I could see through the door it might be two rooms? It could have just been some junk making it look like two areas. All the other bunkers I've seen over there are just one room but maybe they have some special setup for special cases.

yea, i believe N-9 was made specifically to hold a certain anti-aircraft or anti-tank missile or something... dont quote... but something along those lines

I am new to UE photography... took my first trip out few days ago to Wompatuck and the old Naval Buildings... Still some stuff there, but you can see that they are systematically taking it all down.  Still some cool things to shoot
