Oh dear lord I shouldn't even merit this with a response.  Ladd's just not worth it.  There's bigger and better places you can go.

Welcome to the board.   :D

Yeah I tried going there recently and as soon as we pulled up the road a state cop pulled in right behind us. We all had to give him our ID's as well as answer a whole bunch of questions individually. The cop explained that there's so much security now because about 2 months ago a few kids went in and found a bottle of acid. Since they were obviously really smart they took the bottle out and smashed it on the ground  .. they ended up being badly burned. We tried explaining to the cop that we just wanted to take pictures of the outside of the building but I don't think he really bought it and told us that if we were ever seen there again we would be arrested.

I wanted to ask him if he would just go inside with us so we could take pictures and he could make sure we didn't get hurt or ruin anything.. but for fear of getting arrested I decided to just say okay we won't come here again and just leave..

haha.. I guess it was cool just getting to see the outsides of the buildings for myself although I couldn't get any pictures or anything. I would love to figure out how to get in without getting arrested before it closes.. I know there isn't really much left but since I live so close and I've heard so much it would just be nice to just get a feel for the place.

p.s. In case anyone didn't understand the sarcasim.. it really pisses me off that people can be so stupid.

ive been driving around scoping out the grounds as of late, since my fiance lives  15 mins away. I noticed on the back side of the building connected to the circular building there is a second story window out. Easily accessible with a ladder, but also hard to hide if someone ( police ) are being nosey and patrolling the grounds. But also on the front half of the building we noticed a door with a padlock on the front. Thinking of cutting it but leaving it looking as though its together, then going back in a week or so where we can just go and duck right in. Havnt seen the state police once yet. maybe luck maybe not. Ive read alot online about some window or something thats busted out with an upside down trashcan on the other side to climb down on to. a basement window i think? anyone know nething about this, and any ideas regarding my idea to get in? im willing to meet up with people to go in at once if theres an interest.

I haven't been inside yet, but I drove around the other day and took pictures. Anyway, on the building all the way on the left (Howe?) has a window out with boards or something propped up against the wall-- to climb in I'm assuming.. and I believe this is where the upside down trash can will be waiting for you haha.. I'm hoping to go in soon, I just can't get caught a second time so I most likely will be going during the day since I got permission from the state cops to be there although they obviously didn't say I could go inside.. but I figure I know the place well enough to not get caught..

Haha, good luck--- maybe I'll see you there!

I don't remember if all the buildings look the same, but I think I've been in that one.  And if I was, it was the only building there I dared go in, because my car was parked right outside of it and we only stayed about five minutes for fear of getting caught.  (Then again, this was three years ago before that whole news broadcast that resulted in the increased security, etc etc etc.)

And I didn't have to climb through a window.  The back door was wide open.

Damn I wish it was that easy nowadays.. The state police gave me permission to walk around all I want and take pictures which is cool.. but one of these days I'm going to go right in.. I don't even think anyone would notice if I went in the daytime..

Gahh but it'd be so much better if I could just go through a door.. jeez.

My main thing is that no one would know I was there if I didn't have to worry about hiding my car.  I'd love to go back to Ladd, and if I lived within a couple miles I would probably walk there every day...but I live more like 45 minutes from there.

Yeah I live like 15 minutes away which is cool. I've also thought of a couple of places to park, although I haven't tried them yet so be careful lol. (I'm gonna abbreviate some things so I don't add too much detail since we can't do the private messeges, hopefully you understand for the most part.)

Most require some walking..

1. There's a big dirt area in the Vet Cem (if you go in and drive towards Ladd), with large hills that you could park next to and I don't think any cops check in there, especially if you park far back enough.

2. As long as it's during the day you could park right at the J.C. (towards the end so you could walk along the woods)

3. If you're going really late at night these two probably won't work but you could park at the Variety Store and walk through the woods

4. Or, this would probably a littly iffy, but there's a house on the road after Ladd that you can see Fogarty right in there back yard. I've never met the people but I was thinking about asking them to park in their driveway and then just walking through their yard and onto the Ladd property.. that is, if they aren't the kind of person that will be like um sure, and then end up calling the cops and telling them exactly where I am.. haha

5. Or you could just park on that road, between two houses so you wouldn't really be on either's property as long as they don't see you walk near their house..

There's a road near Ladd that my friend and I saw some lady walking her dog, and later, while we were driving around Ladd, we saw the same woman very close to the Ladd property.  Perhaps that's near Fogarty? I'm not familiar with the building names there.

No...how cool would it be if you lived there when you were like 5 and the whole place was your playground? lol

lol yes that would be cool too.. I might be traumatized from that as a child though haha.. I heard from someone on another forum that their mother worked there or something and she went there when she was young and there were all these naked people just laying on the floors in the hallways and stuff.. maybe it's a stretch but I wouldn't doubt it too much

Probably not. My grandmother used to work at Mansfield Institution (which used to be a state mental hospital, now half of it's abandoned and the other half is used by UConn), and she said someone tried to kill her with a chair.

There's no cops during the day at all.. and I saw the lady walking her dog! She parks at one of the end buildings and walks her dogs through the woods... the first time I saw the car I though hmm.. maybe it's someone that is inside from insanebunkers.com or something haha, but it ended up being her. So then the next day I went back again just because I was in the area, and she was there at the same exact time in the same exact place. It's odd, but she's very nice.. She has a blue car just incase anyone sees her.

Still no cops during the day?  I was under the impression that it was inaccessible at all times.  Sweet though...hmm...maybe its time to go back :)

Yeah, that building looks familiar. If Megan and I didn't go in it 3 years ago, we at least went by it. Heh.

There is a rear entrance to the ladd school property. driving down the backroad you can see a cement road heading south towards the property, but there are two houses on either side . If you keep heading west on this road you can see fogarty beyond a field which is one houses backyard.  Keep driving west and about a 1/4 of a mile past the house is a small ATV trail on the left side of the road.  you can pull your car right into there and pull into the woods until you cannot see the road any more.  Then you have to hike about a 1/3 mile south east through the woods.  this will lead to the riverfield building.  From here just be carefull not to be seen
