Asbestos risk

I am wondering what people think about the risk of asbestos exposure. I have read some articles that make it sound like a grave danger and others that do not mention it at all. I am of the opinion that as long as you do not touch or disturb anything or kick up dust then you should be fine, even without a mask or respirator. Feel free to write back with your opinions.
