The Tuberculosis Hospital and Fort Devens Connection during the Cold War

(the Cranberry TB Hospital in 1925)

Construction started on the regionally famous Tuberculosis hospital in 1916 and the first patients were moved in during June of 1919. But as the Massachusetts Civil Defense Agency was busy designating new Fallout Shelters during the Cold War, they were also planning the "Massachusetts Training Center for Emergency Hospital Management Training Program". This was a program to take place at Fort Devens in Massachusetts.

The following recently recovered documents were found in the basement of the long abandoned Tuberculosis hospital. Please read through these documents to get a feel for the program and what was going on back in 1963 and what would have happened if a disaster had been, and this hospital was needed to be transformed into a different type of hospital.

The packet was fully intact.

I also found this nice period picture of Fort Devens online.
