Pawtucket Central Falls train Station
« on: April 23, 2011, 11:07:07 AM »
after years of trying, we finaly found a way into the building. the inside is untouched since the day it closed. a renovation attempt was made, but the gave up on it. the interior is beautiful, and there are tons of old things still left over from when it was in opperation. a truely awsome adventure.

Actually, there is some graffiti in there, but not much.

If you zoom in on the photo, you'll see someone as given all the people mustaches.

Other than that, it's an amazing location. If you don't mind, I'll add a few photos from my trip to the train station. I'm not actually sure who you are, but you're local, and there's a good chance I went here with either you, or your friend. Props to you guys for opening her. I'd longed to see the inside for six years.

An old postcard from when the station was operational.

actually a while back when origionally scouting it out I ran into two other men (who im guessing were other explorers) and they had been looking for a way in through the elevator shafts on the bottom near the tracks (which there is no way in from there) but anyways we ended up talking and they had said they heard people in there, now I doubt this because prior to me, ademan and sewerrat going in there had been no real entrance.

By the way right at the entrance and throughout the building theres tons of asbestos so make sure to wear your respirator.

place seems really cool.  I drive by there a lot because I work with families in CF.  I wouldn't venture there during the night.

I bet you soon, that place will be home to graffiti and homeless.

I remember sometime in the 80s they tried to have a flea market in the old station, which ended up bein short lived. More interestingly though is before they started the flea market it had already been closed for a while... so, me and my explorer friends at the time decided to get in and check it out. We ended up getting the scare of our young lives. We'd heard rumors of some older teens goin in there and getting into cult -like stuff, and it ended up bein true because we heard some people in there, we went in and saw some dudes in makeshift robes with dead stray cats strung up. I remember them yelling and chasing us out of there. I've gone back numerous times since, and I took a bunch of pics of the perimeter that I posted to my Facebook before, but I been anxious to get back inside. I saw someone else post some pics on here of what looked like the old Leroy Theater entrance sign and a jukebox. Is that stuff still inside??

-The station was closed in 1960 and no longer contains anything from from when it was a functional train depot. The "contents" you have seen inside are from the numerous flea markets, art festivals and even a couple of "casino nights" that were held inside the station as well as from both Pawtucket and CF "storage".
-Even some of the "art work" you photoed on the wall is not original but left over from a church bazar and casino that was held there. As it happens I am old enough to know the artist and remember when it was done. We harbored the vain hope that there was going to be a life for the depot but, sadly nothing has seemed to work there.
-Over the years when I was growing up in CF I remember that there were also several small fires inside the depot. The news called them "small nuisance fires", that never damaged the structure but burned some contents.
-The blocking up of windows and doors was an on going thing in the 70's and 80's when people were getting in, and there was some concern that trains running beneath the depot would cause an eventual collapse of the dilapidated structure from track and train vibrations.
-Oddly enough, homeless people never seemed to take up residence in the depot, possibly due to the difficulty in gaining access. I remember hearing the stories of the cults from neighborhood kids but that never proved true either.
-I have a few old pictures of the depot when it was working.

There really is almost nothing original left inside. I've seen photos from before the flea market, and it was completely gutted.

There are some photos of it in operation HERE. I'll second seeing more!

From 1992-1995 I lived across the street from the CF train station on Montgomery St.  I don't remember the exact year but I remember within a two month period there were two major fires.  The first one they put out in about 20 minutes and boarded the place up.  The second one burned for about 6 hours and they had companies from Pawtucket, Central Falls, Cumberland, Attleboro and North Providence there and those are just the fire trucks that I saw.  The whole building was engulfed.  Flames came out of nearly every window.  A day or two later an article in the Pawtucket Times said the building was a total loss and would be condemned.  The place was all boarded up for the longest time.  Then maybe a year or so after I moved out of that neighborhood there were a succession of businesses there.  At least one flea market and at least one farmer's market was there.  I would imagine somebody did some renovations to the building after the fire.  I remember there was a push to have the building restored to it's former glory and serve it's original purpose but not enough backing materialized.  I also remember that some time after the fire but before they put in the high speed trains they took down what was left of those beautiful ornate Victorian stairs down to the platform.  They were all wrought or cast iron, I'm not sure which.  Google has recently added a 45 degree satellite view of the neighborhood that shows the roof very well, particularly where the skylight was ripped out but left on the roof in pieces.

How can I get in?

Also, I'm looking for the location of the 716 Drain.  Does anyone have this?

Well I have both. 716 is a good bit of fun! I hanvt been there in a year or so now, it's near behind that quarry like place near the docks in Pawtucket. I don't remember the street off hand but shoot me a message and I can send you more
