BSS has no security at all. Unless you wanna count the militia (the locals) who throw a fit if they see you climbing out of a window. Belchertown Police Station is located in the front of the campus and they rarely even walk the grounds unless something big is going on. I go there all the time, drive right by and behind the police station.  park at the baseball field in the summer and wherever else in the winter. and go have a blast. I've been there in the morning, afternoon, night, and overnight. Never seen a single cop there. But they have a caretaker who seals the buildings regularly, almost got sealed in one last time I was there in November. Its a damn cool place! there's a ton of buildings.

Well I was there in November and I tried three buildings and two were not sealed. And there's ways in to most of them. In July I was there for like 10 hours and managed find POE's in like 15 of the buildings. It all depends on the day because I swear they reseal them like every week.

And no there's totally no security. Seriously I've been yelled at by old locals, scared a jogger, ran into tons of drunk teens, and ghost hunters. Never seen a single cop down there before. And no there's no motion sensors, or anything. That may change soon because from what I've heard a parcel may have been sold of for re-development (supposedly.) and that they're trying to keep traffic down there but idk. I've never ever had a problem back there spend many long days and nights inside and out. never had the police from 30 seconds away come lookin for anything.

Last time  was there it was pretty open, I parked right on the grounds and walked around and nobody seemed to care. It was in the spring so there was still some snow and you could see a thousand dog prints where people walked their dogs. I'm not sure if thats still the case since they sold part of it, I heard recently they've been keeping it on lockdown. If you go again let us know the status. I'd take a ride out there if I knew it wouldn't be a waste of gas.  ^_^

Hopefully I'll make a trip out there at some point in the next month or two, so I'll definitely post when I do

Ok so I've been here twice in the last week and I said I'd let you all know the status. Minus the 2+ feet of snow, there have been recently sealed buildings and some new ply board on the windows and doors. If you know where, you can still explore plenty of the buildings though. I can't wait till spring though to actually get around easier and see more things. I'd go sooner than later because it looks like BSS is getting sold of to a company called Weston and they're going to tear it down. We find out pretty soon if the deal will go through.

What does the auditorium look like now? The roof was pretty rough last time. Figured all this snow may have finished it off.

The auditorium as of January 2011. You can use the snow to gauge the damage to the roof.

Definitely dig the pic of the flooded hallway.
But good goddamn. Really wish I could get a chance to check it out before it gets torn down.

Both of you, haha, this is what I get for doing anything before a cup of coffee, I somehow missed that it was a post by two separate people who do great work.  Great work!  If you can afford it, I'd go for the A850 though instead, but that's me. :)  Do you sell your work anywhere?

Haha I know how much life sucks till you get that first caffeine buzz of the day. Thank you by the way! And I wish I could afford that :( I do studio work as well, and it would be so worth it... Maybe next year. I suck at promoting my work, so I always tell people "if you see something you like, I'll sell it you". But I do have an Image Kind account that I used to use pre-exploring days, that I should probably update!

Business cards help, I'd get some printed up if I were you. You can get them done free or if you'd like to design them yourself you can pay to have some cards with a nice quality.  You get better at talking yourself up over time. :)  I found that simply showing my photos to my coworkers (they'd been begging me for months to see the pictures) landed me the opportunity to shoot a wedding, and one of the guests at the wedding works for a company that's now one of my repeat paying clients.  If I land a couple more accounts like that one, I could leave my other job at the post office and do this full time.  (Actually, with some of the big projects they have me working on, I could probably leave now...but when my projects are done, then what?)

Does Image Kind offer print capabilities?  I use a Smugmug pro account (big expense to swallow early on, but it's paid for itself in prints) because it takes care of all the professional printing and you can set your commission.

(Sorry for straying wayyyyy off topic, I can split this into another one if you guys want LOL)

I looked it up and found it on google earth, it's really not far for us eastern CT people. lol :D  Say an hour or so, zip up Rt. 2 to 91 to the Mass Pike.  (Though I would take back roads and hit every place on the way up, of which there are bound to be some. lol)

I think the SAC bunker does tours in April, if you go up then it's right near Belchertown. It's not abandoned, but pretty near. If you're interested I can get the guys email and see if he's doing it this year. There's another cold war bunker over in Williamsburg, but I haven't got a tour of the place yet, some company bought it and renovated it.

And of course there are the usual hospitals, mills and houses along the way :)

I think I will get some business cards! great idea haha. and yeah ImageKind does prints and all that, I just never really use it... I used to use Zenfolio for a while which was kind of cool
