The Potter Hill Mill
« on: May 23, 2010, 03:59:23 PM »
This used to be a textile mill. The roof collapsed some time ago and took 4 floors and all the machinery on them with it.

This was my first real exploration trip. It was pretty crazy too. There is fence with barbed wire surrounding the property so walking to it was out of the question. We got a canoe, and used the current from the waterfall to push us down river a bit. We brought the canoe up on one of the river banks and started to check out the buildings.

Well goddamn. Do you know how tight security is, what the visibility's like, etc?

I don't believe that there is any security other than local cops passing by and the such.

The entire place is surrounded by a fence topped with barbed wire. As strange as it seems, the canoe was our best option. There are houses pretty close to the fence too. Close enough that we could hear them talking on their deck. You can see little glimpses of the houses from behind the main building, which means that they can also most likely see you.

I wouldn't suggest going either. This place is sketchy. In the places that it hasn't collapsed, the floorboards are buckling like nothing I've ever seen.

The building is easily seen from the road. See here. Luckily, the intact part of the building is in the back, away from the windows.

I'm curious. I was wondering around with some of my friends in March and we came upon a old mill that sounds like this but where unable to get in and lacked a canoe.

 It seems to match.

azeron17 YES, that's it.

It looks like it's deteriorated a lot in the past year.  I took pics of it in January 09.

Just so we're clear on this, I'm foaming at the mouth.

lol

Also linking up the old topics to this one, so MovingUnit's 2004 pics are readily available.  Amazing how much it's deteriorated in 6 years.

and

also, bing maps bird's eye view doesn't show it as deteriorated (that main section of the roof of the stone mill).

A+ on this guys, holy shit.  <3

I would have liked to see the interior from before the collapse happened. It was probably amazing!

Thanks!

I use a Canon PowerShot SX10IS. I'm hoping to upgrade to a D90 or it's replacement in the next year or year and a half.

Damn, and here I thought you were shooting with a DSLR.  I have a Canon Rebel XS myself, picked it up on Amazon, they have awesome prices on the cameras when you're ready to upgrade.

You have mad editing skills.  Do you sell your prints anywhere yet?

I dont sell any of my work... yet.

I might start getting them printed at the end of the year. I know that I will be making a photo book to use as a portfolio and the such.

Thanks for the compliments. :)
