Does anyone have a metal detector? If so what stuff have you found with it?

Have one, can't even tell you what type it is at the moment because I don't remember offhand.  Haven't found anything good with it besides some nails.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong  ^_^  I let someone borrow it to find his wedding ring that he lost (!!!) and he found a nail in his yard but not his ring.  I'm like...dude...let me look for it!   j/k

I had one of those cheap Radio Shack types back in the early 90s, and I found an old fork with that.  I also used that to look for one of my rings that I lost on the soccer field at school and didn't find it, and it turned up 2 months later anyway.  lol I don't find anything good so it's pretty obvious I don't know what I'm doing with it.  LOLLLLLLLL

If you're looking for stuff at the beaches there is stiff competition especially at Scarborough and that one near the towers in Narragansett (Crescent Beach/Narragansett Town Beach I think it is).  I go sea glass hunting in the winter and since the recession started more and more guys are out on the beaches giving it their all because they don't have jobs.  There's at least 2 guys who are at the same beaches daily.

With mine, I've only found nails and some (newer) coins. I'd like to take it to an old colonial site but havent found one that hasnt been worked over already.

I know of some!  Trade, you teach me how to use and I will you locations.  I have a whole list of colonial locations in Preston where the houses burned in the 60's or earlier and it's doubtful the sites have been worked over much, if at all.  Some areas were unfortunately developed into modern housing (the place where I found the fork, for example, was a colonial dwelling.  Maybe worked over but not likely.  Strangely enough, the guy who lost his ring built his house right over almost the same spot, so there's more than one reason why I'd want to scour his yard. LOL

metal detectors amongst most things are good if you know how to use it. i've found sum old horse shoes n wat appears to be sum sorta cannon ball at the abby in Portsmouth. i struck it good in 06' found a platinum ring at 1st beach in Newport (mind you i go their all the friggen time and leave empty handed)
I noticed mainstream beaches are a good spot . the main problem bieng you're dealing with competition so you kinda have to be really into it for a long time to make anything about it

Oh that platinum ring must've been awesome.  Prices for that right now are out of this world especially since gold went up.  Hope you got a good price for it in '06, I don't know what the prices were like for it then.

I went out metal detecting this past weekend in east providence and we found about two dozen civil war era bullets. Most have never been fired, only one or two showed evidence of being shot. We didnt find anything else which is really wierd.

Actually no. Its along a river and no civil war battle took place there. I know its right in the middle of where King Philip's war took place but nothing more recent than that. Maybe they fell out of a boat transporting goods during the civil war. Dont know.

streams n rivers tend to move things underground  or so i've been told. that's pretty nasty to find such a thing in a unexplainable area
