I have heard of it, but sadly never seen anything to substantiate it.

sadly the mansion you are talking no longer exists. it was off of tunk hill road (route twelve) but the way to access it by car was to go up field hill road in clayville. the access road from route twelve still exists its just after old plainfiled pike but as i said the mansion is gone. the mansion you are talking about was called Joslyn Estate or Joslyn Plantation. The Joslyns were a rich family around the time of the scituate resivoir's conception and building, they lost much of their property and several businesses to the reservoir. The mansion was a frequent hangout of teens who grew up on route 12, and on franklin and adjacent roads. the mansion was intact for a while but with most sites frequent visitors took its toll and eventually the state locked the main house. the barn and the auxillary building were still accessible but eventually became unsafe with most people fearing that they'd fall through the floor, my step sisters even has stories of being forced to walk first across any floor because she was the heaviest and if it supported her than it would be safe for the others to cross over. in the early nineties a local man took it upon himself to become the "guard" for the estate and started sitting outside of it with a bebe gun and wouldn't think twice about firing on tresspassers despite being one himself. about seven years ago the state decided that they no longer wanted to deal with the house and its unwanted visitors and demolished the house and turning the land over to the providence water board. i haven't been to the house, i was too young at the time i lived on route twelve and too young at the time of demolition, but my step sisters frequented the place and have supplied me with many stories about visiting it.

I did some digging, couldn't find much on the Joslin mansion itself but did find this book

http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/news_article.html?id=2549,%202564,%202579,%202630

Anyone read it?  Looks like it would be interesting.

There is a picture of the Joslin house in the book, and you can see it on google books

I discovered what appeared to be a large building in the woods on Bing Maps.  It is in Foster between Danielson and Old Danielson Pike.  It's not the mansion but looks like it's worth exploring.

An old timer in town has mentioned Joslin Farm to me on more than one occasion.  The barn was newly built at the time the reservoir was going in (this man was alive then) and was spectacular.  The land was taken by Providence Water Suppy through emminent domain and at least until a few years ago the barn was still standing and this man felt ti was a damn shame that such a spectacular barn had gone to waste.  I live nearby and through all of my traversing of the area I have not seen anything even resembling a ruin.  Also there are no stories about hauntings or anyhthing like that, not even true abandonment.  If anything it was a bit of robbery by the PWS, aka The City Bums.

No, it appears someone lives there.  It looked so promising from the sky!  Unless I had the wrong house... lol

I am a relative of the Joslin family, and I lived and grew up on Field Hill Rd., which was the road that the mansion (Joslin estate) was located on, just before dumping onto Tunk Hill.  This was a truly creepy place, we lived at most just a 5 min walk down the dirt road...across from King Pond (google earth it).  Here is a picture, I have thousands of Joslin estate pictures....the joslins were on my Dad's side (gilbreth Brown).  I think Penny Joslin might still live in RI (I think we're cousins...).  We broke in one night late, and got stuck in all the thorn bushes surrounded the main house.  The caretaker was walking around and we could see his flashlight from the cracks in the walls.  While the wind was howling, this was a freaking scary place for a ten year old...
