Man, you are so CLOSE!  There is a baseball field/soccer field overlooking the ramp to 195.  You want to find a Dr/Dentist office on the east side of the road, park, and look for the pit.   Alternatively, you may find it easier to park and walk the east side of the road until you see the entrance.  Be careful and have fun.

Sorry to bring this old topic back to life but I went out last night in search of this tunnel. I found the opening on the side of North Main Street actually by accident just driving by. I recognized it from pictures I'd seen here and elsewhere so I ventured through the parking lot and its sealed up really tight. I think I'll be seeking out the other end soon... anyone go there of recent?

I'm relatively sure you're in the right place but I don't know as if tunnels are a smart choice with all of this rain...

well going into an abandonded tunnel in providence is a risky proposition anyways at least if theres a lot of water there may not be any squatters

good info- plus a word of warning- stay out of india point park at night if you want to avoid static with the po-lice.

it definitely does give off a strange vibe.  When I first relocated to EP, I got a bit lost late night around there, and it was kind of creepy.

ROFL

That's brilliantly hilarious.  Einstein once said "God does not play dice."  Pretty crazy stuff.

Even if you guys find the entrance the problem is they sealed it up.

if the hulk can't get em open, we need WMD's.  Or a Jedi.

it looks as though its sealed with the same metal welding as the opposite end on Main Street... if so... indestructable without making a LOT of noise... I hear you can rent jackhammers though.

UE... those directions are where I was and had the same problem with soccer players. I think if you park in that lot and walk down Gano you can actually see the entrance right through the trees next to that big housing development.

There is no try.  Do or do not.

i was down there today at 230 but when i got there there was a dem cop going in and out of the woods like he was looking for something or someone he stopped to talk with a couple people in between going in and out so i didnt wanna push things  im not sure if your allowed back there or not but i was talking to a guy from work after that who plays soccer there and he said that lots of people go back there fishing he also said a lot of people go back there to do drugs so we gotta be careful but heres what im thinking usually tunnels for trains have emergency manhole covers to get out im going to look around see if i can find an old map of this tunnel and see what comes up and um nothing indestructable if you got the balls to work on it lol

That's a let down. No vents.

long time lurker first time poster...

nice little youtube vid on the tunnel... Hidden History: East side Railroad Tunnel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uxwJcH5Zjk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uxwJcH5Zjk)

It says both ends have been permanently welded shut after numerous break-ins. wiki also reports they have been welded shut (and gives exact locations of each end of the tunnel...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Side_Railroad_Tunnel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Side_Railroad_Tunnel)

Happy hunting if anyone finds another way in... (maybe through the water and up 15 feet of rope ala insanebeaver)
