The Napatree Point video was hilarious.  F*ckin' bugs...

If you all decide to go back, let me know; I live two minutes from there.

Man, I wish I had a prize or something to give out- you guessed the location.

That's me swearing on the video.  I have to say that I've never been attacked by mosquitoes like I did that day.  Dakiel and I literally had like 30 minutes to go scout this place.  It really seemed to be a perfect day (insert flashback sequence).

So, we take heed from some advice here on the forum (was it you spacemonkey who adviced taking the beach?) and took the beach.  It's a long mot*herfu*king walk.  Any way, I was siked to get there and see the mounds of overgrown something at the point.  Also the old dock pilings (see in the video) was a good indication that we were close to paydirt.

After kicking some piping plovers (kidding) we headed toward the dunes.  I don't know what happened but it was like miskiters from hell.  Those fuckers came at us like it was the first time they tasted blood.  We were Filet Mignon and those bastards were hungry.  I don't want to come off like we're a bunch of pusses but they were vicious.  At one point I put the camera down and looked at Dakiel- he was covered.  They were entering my ears, nose, and they were all over my face and eyes.  I just started swatting like a mad man.  After swatting a bunch away I looked at my hands- they were smeared in blood, my own blood from killing those little bastards as they were feeding on me.  I think that I'd spend the $400 on one of those Mosquito Magnet things just to get my revenge at that dreded place someday.

That was only half the story.  The point is rampant with another natural nuisence- Poison Ivy.  It was all over the place like someone was feeling it Miracle Grow.  I tried to warn Dakiel but he got nailed bad by the devil leaf.  By that time, no bunkers, lots of blood and welts, poison ivy.

So, fellow bunker explorers, if you go to Napatree Point during the summer, wear pants, socks, long sleeves, and douse yourself in repelant.  Also, a recent satelite image in-hand would have been helpful.

Oh, if you liked that movie, cool.  We got much more where that came from.

Wow, that really sucks. You guys should title that film "insaneshitsandwich"
Are there any other strange occurrences associated with that location?

I pretty much had the same experience the one time I ventured out there.  I drive past it almost every day, but never realized what a friggin' haul it was out to the point.  When I went, I brought some bug spray with me so the mosquitoes didn't bother too much, BUT just as I reached the bunker after climbing throught the dense brush, I encountered a whole family of skunks.  Almost stepped right on them without realizing it.  They stopped and all looked up to me almost as if to say, "Alright mot*erf*cker, one more step and we all spray you."  So, needless to say I booked it out of there pretty quickly.

I'm waiting for colder weather to go back and explore.

100% deet. I don't leave home without it.
Who cares about a little cancer, these are mosquitos we are talking about.
