Title: 4X's Haunted Bridge
Post by: againstallodds on July 09, 2012, 11:19:52 PM
So I am new to this site but i love going urban exploring and i go all over RI and CT and i recently hear of a place called the 4X's Bridge but i can't find it anywhere and none of my friends know the location of it or the entire story. i heard that it is a white X on a bridge that if you try to paint over or pave it, it always immediately comes back. also, its full of hauntings and when you shut your car off it just freaks out and won't turn on and it stalls out. can any one help me clear it up on the area and story please?

It's in Bristol. I've been there a few time, really scary.

the USGS has suvey benchmark points all throughout the coastal areas.

Look in the giant white X, there's a large nail embedded in the center, that's the benchmark. the giant white X is there so the Survey workers can see the locations while driving.

If you paint/pave over it, it "immediately" comes back, because they're used all the time for surveying, and need to be recognized.

I heard all of the folklore about these before too, if you park your car in neutral it moves and all this junk..

Growing up i believed it too, until I started working in construction!

Well the putting the car in neutral thing can work in areas usually nicknamed something like "gravity hill", where your car appears to roll uphill, but it's really just a great illusion though your car really is rolling downhill but your brain is tricked into thinking otherwise just because of what it sees in front of it.  There's one in Sterling and a few in RI somewhere.

I love debunking urban legends so freaking much. ahahaha

REALLY late to the party here... but I live in Bristol. I can tell you with absolute certainly that the "4X's" do exist, though not on a bridge. They are located off of Metacom Ave. near Mt. Hope Farm (not on the property, a few streets away). The road is actually known by locals for being haunted, but it has nothing to do with the 4X's. Mt. Hope Farm and the surrounding area was where King Phillip's War took place, meaning that there were a decent amount of people who died out there. I had a teacher in high school who swore she saw the ghost of some of the Native Americans that died there (though I don't believe her, major sceptic here) and an old boyfriend told me that he had witnessed a few paranormal encounters here as well. It's quite a dark and interesting ride down that road at night. Not scary at all though. It's right next to a neighborhood.
