Let's get a photo gallery going here.   We will still have the ability to include pics in-post but I figured we should bring back user galleries.  Let me know your thoughts here.  If I left out an option, be sure to let us know here.

I just wanted to let those know that the Flickr and Picasa integration makes it looks like it's part of Insanebunkers.


The only difference is that it's your own gallery.  This has some benefits: 1) You can freely manipulate your galleries directly in these applications. 2) The application handles the backups.

If we do host these pics right on IB then I will have a secondary backup made at least once/week.

Ok, I voted.  Just so you know though that I liked what we had before the meltdown, but I also like the Flickr integration because the backup of everyone's photos wouldn't be IB's responsibility.

However if we integrate into the forum this has some positives:  people will join and stay because they can contribute their photos like before--we had a much higher member retention back then and we were growing at a nice pace.

Now I'm going to fess up--when the massive site failure happened, I was uploading to my galleries.  I thought my internet had given out when I got the "site cannot be found" message, and then I kept getting it, and figured IB went down, so I decided to come back in a couple hours.  And guess what.  I've always felt partially at fault for it.  So whatever you guys decide for a photo gallery, I'm not going to tax the site like I did in the past (I had uploaded over 2GB - 1300 photos here), I'll save the best for here and the "meh" ones for my site.

I am quite excited for photos on IB. Looking forward to sharing and seeing everyone else's!

One of the advantages to using Flicker, etc is that the bandwidth of all those pics comes off their site, and not IB.

Totally not anyone's fault but our beloved web host..  It wouldnt be so bad if they were free, but they are not.    Let's get the pics back. :ph34r:

Wow, PostSecret is a new one for me.

I think based on the feedback here we'll go with a self-hosted gallery.   More to follow...
