As Megster posted in another thread earlier this week, the roof of the beautiful Prym Mill in Dayville, CT collapsed recently, pushing forward the buildings imminent demolition. I've included an article about the newest collapse. I didn't take the photos of the article, I stole them from my friends FB. All the photos of the mill, however, I took during my visit to the location back in July of 2009.

I love pics 8, 9, & 12. I never saw the inside of this one.
Pic 14 shows something interesting that I noticed a few months ago on Bing. It seems like someone went through great pains to keep the roof's side visible from Rt. 101 "nice" so that no one would think it would come down soon, however the back half of the roof had massive holes and looked more like a building that hadn't been maintained for 20 years. I mean with only one half of the roof maintained, what did they think was going to happen? lol
Also, after the initial collapse --from Rt. 101 it just looked like the roof dropped in, but from the back of the property it was more obvious that the back half had collapsed at least through the 3rd floor.
Have to say, surprised no one ever torched this one.
The pics are amazing--less than a year before the initial collapse yet the structure doesn't appear to be compromised. I was once in a building less than 3 weeks before it fully collapsed and it was the same deal--we had no idea that was coming. Other times buildings provide subtle hints that the structure is changing, something as simple as a door being stuck or difficult to open when it wasn't previously.
In photos 7,9, and 13 you can see the beginnings of collapses. This building was in worse condition than my photos make it appear back in 09.
A couple boards from the ceiling in 7 isn't so bad. I don't see it in 9 (floorboards?) and 13 is dark.
When I think a structure is compromised I think of Potter Hill Mill in Westerly...lol
The papers keep saying this has only been vacant 15 years? That would place last occupancy in 1996. Gotta admit I've been living in the area my entire life and can't ever recall that building being in use. Maybe another part of the mill was occupied until then, but I think this part has been abandoned longer than that.
Found on google docs that the mill has been vacant since 1989, so 22 years. Journalists keep getting more and more lazy, this took me less than 5 minutes to find.
