Crazy UE stories!

I don't see a whole hell of a lot of stories about wild goose chases or things like that, so I want to know what kind of weird things happen when you go exploring. How many times have you gotten lost and ended up somewhere bizarre?

I know that back when I had my old car and gas was cheap, my friend Zack and I were definitely more daring.  One time we were looking for abandoned houses since we had no specific agenda for the day, and we ended up at a cul de sac.  However, just before the end of the road, there was a grassy path wide enough for a car if you jumped the curb, with a yellow caution street sign that said "Minimum Maintenance Road."

We drove along this road for about ten minutes or so--we had to go slow and after a bit we started seeing car parts and rusted cars lining the "road".  Suddenly we came to a clearing, and we were in someone's back yard.  They smiled at us and waved like it happens all the time, and we went out of their driveway back onto the main road.

It would be nice to go back to take a picture of the sign.

Someone post something.  I went back and found the road (off West Log Bridge Rd. in West Greenwich, RI.)  It's not grassy, and it looks like someone is using part of it for a new driveway.  And since my car is new and shiny and doesn't fare as well on these types of roads like the last one, I didn't go down it.

I hear ya on the new/newer car thing.  Need a truck for some of these places.  Wow, would love to see this place on the Location Spotter to see what's in the area from the air (only if you want to of course) :)

I would, believe me, if it didn't take me forever to get my location on there.  When I convince my mom to DO SOMETHING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get faster internet (her call, not mine...) believe me, I'll live on this site more than I already do, if that's possible.  haha.

It's close to Nelly Vaughn's grave.  From Rt. 102, take Plain Meeting House Rd.  A little way down you will see Kimberly Dr.--take that and then there's West Log Bridge Rd. near the end.  Follow West Log Bridge road and Minimum Maintenance Road is before the cul de sac on the right.

And my old car was a 1988 Pontiac 6000.  I took that damn thing EVERYWHERE, just because I figured if I killed it, well, it was on its way out anyway.

It died on my way to work one morning last summer with 198,737 miles on it.  I'd been doing 45mph, and ended up skidding 300 feet when the wheel fell off.

Oh....that's pretty bad.  Looks like a tie-rod snapped.  Luckily you weren't on the highway doing 80.  It could have been a disaster.

You know friends don't let friends buy GM, right?!

Seriously, good luck with this one.

Oh god...thanks for the good wishes on this one, but I already know you're right.  The brakes let go five weeks after I bought it, but the dealership replaced them for free.  Then it needed new tires because the ones it had were dryrotted...etc.

And it's not good in the snow, not like the old one.  The old one was a fucking tank! I miss it.  I went offroading with it.  I could climb walls with it.  Swing from trees.   This one's a pansy because it knows its pretty and shiny lol.

They don't make cars like they used to. :(

BTW, I have a close up of what went wrong with my old car, I forgot what the mechanic said.  He had been fixing this car since before I bought it, and hated it with a passion since it was such a piece of shit and they actually celebrated at the garage when it finally died.  I only paid $400 for it, so I got my money's worth...especially since someone hit me in the back and that "totalled" the car.  I got a check for $1000 and drove it for another two years.

lol that skidmark is HOT!!

Back in the day, I was in a car with several people, and we indirectly caused a house to be abandoned... after driving into it!  :P

That is an absolutely hilarious story though!  Good work!  I totally have your car's nemesis!  The blue version of the same model!

ps for the record, I'm totally giggling about working the word skidmark into a post.  It made work semi-bearable!
