Hi!  Well, its 6 days until the destruction of the old Jamestown Bridge and I would really like to see it.  Unfortunetly, I have school and would get in huge trouble if I cut.  Is anyone planning on or going to be filming this (digitally) and is willing to e-mail me a copy of the video?  If you would, drop me a line at descentman92@gmail.com  Thanks!

Whoa, I didn't know about this!    How are they doing the demo?  What's the scoop?

I heard they're using about 135 dynamite caps   It would be awesome to see.

Quote"On April 11, or the day of the first event bringing down the center span, Governor Donald Carcieri will gather with Senator Lincoln Chafee and the media on the Kingston side of the bridge. The governor will press the button or plunger detonating the explosives after a warning horn sounds followed by a 10-second countdown.

Carrao noted that if all goes well, the demolition could take place by 10:30 a.m., followed by a half-hour cleanup, and the roads could be open as early as 11:30 a.m. However, that is if we lived in a perfect world, he noted. "Obviously, we will stage the event as quickly as possible and open the roads as soon as they are deemed safe," he said. "

We need someone to get down there with a DV cam and record this.  Who's available to donate video to the site?  I'll make it available for anyone to download.   This is good stuff...  We'll even send someone blank DV tapes..

I can't, but I want to go photograph it this weekend, who's with me?
I hide in the shadows and babble about old things.  I appear to most new members of IB.  I might beat you with my cane.

I just read in the paper that the demo is pushed until Tuesday April 18.

I still can't, I have to work.  :(  If I was still a journalist....oh well.

I'm still going this weekend though.

Ok, I didn't realize that the new date is during vacation, so weather and schedule permitting, I can most likely film it with my dad's DV cam.  I can't make any promises though, but the answer as of now is yes.

Awesome.  I still have to work that day.  I never made it last weekend because I got pretty sick, but I'm hoping to get there this weekend.

I snapped some pics today while driving down the new bridge into Jamestown.  They are pretty clear and I'll upload them whenever.

Are you filming the demolition tomorrow?

Well, I'm still unsure if I can get there or not.  I read in the paper that the only viewing place if you don't live across the coast is the URI campus, but I can't get there early enough to get a parking spot.  What I might have to do is tape the live demo from my TV and upload that.

Explosion time:  10:59 AM
I just taped the whole hour-long channel 12 broadcast from 10-11:12 (right now).  I'll upload it as soon as I can get it on my comp from VHS.  My dad called and said he heard the explosion, or rather a reverberating boom and a whoosh, from his job in Knightsville.  Sorry I couldn't actually be there, but they showed a view from the campus and it was about a mile anda half away and a fog was around the bridge.

Rather than upload the huge hour-long file, I'll upload the good stuff.  These are the highlights of the broadcast including many different angles.  Select all 4 vids and watch them.

Update:  I've added the pics I took on Sunday to my member gallery.

Great photos Hellion1027.  I love the photos of the charges and the demo guys chatting away.  If you look closely you can also see where they've notched out the steel to allow the bridge to break quickly.

For more footage, I was able to borrow Channel 10's footage.  Check the Video area of the Photos-Video-Audio section for these videos.  They include some old footage of the building of the bridge in the late 30's and some folklore about the bridge.  Good shit.
