I come from a line of ue-ers...so like...I just followed my mom and my grandfather around when they did it.

Actually...no.  But my mom and I would go for long walks and sometimes we would just head down a path in the woods to see where it went.  It's how we found the Marriott Granite Quarry, back when there were a lot of buildings there and machinery dating back to 1888.

And my grandfather was always a big fan of going into new housing developments, finding hidden keys, and letting himself in.  There were two houses in his neighborhood built in the late 1980's and not inhabited for at least five years, and he'd found the secret key for one but not the other.

When I was older my friends and I would break in abandoned houses just because it was something to do.

I started when I was introduced to the Ladd School. Not even knowing what it was, I convinced a friend to take me there one night; I found the stories of his past experiences at this place fascinating and wanted to see it for myself. I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I was very impressed; the first night - mind you, we always went at night - was when we found what we would later call the "Porn Room". But I was especially impressed by the buildings, and their atmosphere. They always seemed, in some way, alive, to me.

Feeling a need to see more, I proceeded to travel Massachusettes and Connecticut seeking and exploring abandoned and "legendary" places. I've been doing this every other year, for six years. I am certainly not the most experienced, or versed "urban explorer," but I think that I've developed a keen appreciation for this kind of thing, particularly as it concerns mental asylums, hospitals and the sort.

I suppose you might say that, in the end, a sense of supertition started me in "urban exploration".

I've always been drawn to abandoned places.  It started when I first began collecting bottles 8-9 years ago.  At first it was just cellar holes and wells, then I began visiting places (Shannock, Kenyon, Usquepaugh) to take pictures.  I explored Wetherill with a friend about two years ago, and that got me hooked on military fortifications.  Right now, my to-explore list is Dutch Island, the "second" part of Wetherill, and any old mills in the South County area.

Usquepaugh is a really pretty area.  Hello fellow bottle collector!

Paranormal investigation and abandoned buildings go hand in hand. Glad to see a site like this for our area.

I also grew up exploring Fort Wetherill and remember when all of the tunnels were open and people were actually allowed to go through the the entire structure. Wish it was like that again.

If anyone knows of a good haunted location please feel free to share. I am always on the look out.

Bobby

I have an amber iodine bottle with a skull and crossbones, some Wyeth bottles (one cobalt with hobnails), but that's about it.  I prefer local medicines.

After poking around in the forts here in Jamestown with my dad when I was 8.
Haven't done anything really interesting, just the old stuff on Dutch island before they renovated the lighthouse, various buildings on Rose Island, and of course the forts at Getty and Wetherill.

Too bad you're too young to drive, I could tell you some awesome places where you wouldn't even have to worry about getting arrested.

One night me and my buddy were chilling at this girls house that he was interested in. We were watching movies and shit, i was just there as a supportive buddy kinda thing, our two friends showed up who lived right next to her and were like HEY, were going to NSH in 10 mins you guys better be ready or were fuckin you up, not that they could but it was like hey come or your pussy. So we went and I cannot even tell you to what extent i was awed. It was like stepping back in time, and everything had a story. I was fascinated where it wouldnt stop there. It was my drug, every place I went by that was abandond I had to go in, Ladd, Wetherill, Taunton, Danvers, Foxborough, I was hitting them all. I passed up Byberry by one year and the damn thing got demoed. Then since I live 20 mins from NSH I started going weekly. then I talked with security and had a free pass for 4 years. I went EVERY NIGHT. I would work 6am to 4 pm, then go to NSH from 5 to Midnight. I have always had respect for places I have been, not breaking windows to get in or knocking down doors, only go in if the place allows me to, not disturbing anything, leaving it as I had found it, and hoping others ( which never usually happened ) would do the same. And when I had free rain to NSH I took as many different people as I could with me to share my experience. I made some awesome friends and had some great times. Yeah its illegal 90 percent of the time, but take chances, Id rather live my life saying yeah i did that and had a great time, rather than being old and grey saying shit i wish i did this or that. You live once, live it to the best that you can and regret nothing.

I want to go to NSH but the whole security and fear of being arrested scares me. :( What is this "securitas" thing I keep hearing about?

rocky point and danvers are two places i JUST MISSED.

Securitas was the old security at NSH, but with my help they got dismissed lol. SSC is the new security company there, they are a better group at keeping kids out as they are 95% ex militarys. ive talked with a number of them, and they know more about me than ive said to them and they know my past with this place. They have heat sensing night vision binoculars ( military spec ) and are very good at keeping a good eye on the place, not like securitas who you could drive up to with no lights on and scare them. just keep an extra ear out if you do go there.

theyre still easy to get past, you just have to be smart about the ground layout. im not going to say where to go and how to get in but if youve been there and know the grounds hills, dips, building layout youll be fine. oh and theyve started filling in some of the tunnels with dirt this past week

i missed danvers too and if you didnt see rocky point you didn't miss much
