Title: Mold- precautions?
Post by: Tmac02892 on July 01, 2008, 09:45:29 PM
I explored Fort Getty a few day ago, and the next day I felt like I had a cold.  It only lasted a day, but I wonder if it could be from the mold.  Anyone encountered the stuff before, and how dangerous is it?  I helped restore an old church in North Kingstown, and the basement was full of black, white, and green mold.  We wore heavy duty dusk masks and I never got sick.  Please, post your experiences.

Getty has a unique smell, there is also virtually no airflow, we have come across our fair share of mold

Same thing happened to me at Ladd last week.  I couldnt breath for a week.  I would definetly recomend wearing one of those painters masks at least.  That is some serious asbestos and mold in these places.

Not so much mold, but asbestos.  I got really sick from photographing a large mill fire & subsequent cleanup back in 2005, a lot of asbestos involved with that one.  Face masks are a must for attics and basements when you don't know what's down there.

lol i hate for legal reasons why i cannot say but i bet ive had my share more of asbestos than ANYONE here  but we did use those little cheapo air filters from like home depot with the rubber band around the back, still didnt help with all the itchyness i had tho afterwards...
