Title: Rocky Point Park
Post by: reptileink on October 28, 2011, 04:04:14 PM
Hey everyone, glad to have stumbled upon this great local web forum! I am a 35 year old married father of 3, currently living in Woonsocket. I have always had an affinity for all things abandoned/post apocalyptic. Sadly, the "urban exploring" hobby was not known to me, so I never really brought a camera along :(  I have explored some areas as a teen, mostly old warehouses, etc.

I can still smell the clam cakes and chowder.

I LOVED Rocky Point(who didn't), and was very sad to see it go. I decided one summer day to grab my camera and "break in" for a photo shoot. I vowed to come back at a later date that summer in an attempt to "secure" some old items before the destruction. I made it as far as the rear ticket booths when I heard the unmistakable sound of tires on pavement. I peeked out of my "safe house" and saw a police cruiser slowly come around the corner. My heart was racing, and I scrunched down in the spider filled booth until they passed. I had actually parked in the now abandoned village adjacent to the rear lot, and was certain they'd be waiting for me there. Nope! Free and clear! That was the last time I was there.

The following pictures were taken that day. I had a Sony Mavica at the time:

I plan on fully exploring this message board, and hopefully get to some of these places to shoot.

Thanks, and hope you enjoy!

Actually, I should clarify.

My first trip I took all the pictures, and had no issues with anyone.

My second trip was when the police showed up(later that summer) I didn't even get beyond the perimeter fence.

Welcome to IB!  Hope you find lots of info here and stick around a bit.

You and I went during the same summer, I have an extensive album from 2003 as well (but you had a better camera!)  I just never made it back.  The haunted house fell down on its own I think about a year later and good pictures of its towers are hard to find.

Actually, I haven't looked around here at all. Being 35 with a family/job/house to take care of, I tend to not take as many risks as I did being a single kid. Not just getting whacked for trespass, but falling through a rotted floor, having something fall on me, etc.

Sucks getting old.

Can I like the "sucks getting old" comment a million times?

There are still a few locations, even for people like us!

agree with that one. its not the money it would cost me, its the point of potentially loosing my job which im at a GREAT position now.
