I don't want this topic to turn into the highly debated "do you / don't take things from places you've been" since that topic can get bogged down with crap on sites such as this soooo let's keep this lighthearted.
There's an auction going on today on ebay for a 1940s Norwich State Hospital postcard. I'm definitely thinking of buying it, since that would be kick ass displayed next to my NSH pictures.
I currently have a 1960's postcard of the ruins at Fort Mansfield that I found for $1 at a flea market. I'd scan it and post it here but since we're moving tomorrow I don't really know where it is at the moment. lol
What do you have? Share anything you have--photos of places still in use (like Rocky Point or NSH or Enchanted Forest, for example) or other things like ...things you may or may not have ganked from abandoned houses....lol
The only rule is that you must own it in some form (or someone you know owns it). Not that you saw it somewhere and left it there. lol
Meg, why must you place all these restrictions on us?!? J/K
My aunt has photos of me as a kid at Enchanted Forest. I
lol I can make a topic for 'cool things you saw at an abandoned house but was too big to take' like cars, pieces of architecture, rabid animals, etc.
My grandmother has a pics of me at Enchanted Forest from 1990. I can only think of one but I'm hoping there are more.
ew looks like I'm outbid on that NSH postcard :( lol
so it's time to right click and save image as...
Lsh: i got a half busted glass window pane with the "bug" logo thing on it
lincoln park: sum crazy gear mechanism from the rollercoasters engine house
fort wetherill: managed to aquire an unbroken purple rooftile thing (from that building ontop of the hill overlooking the docks/bay)
breton point stables: no trespassing sign (nothin to special just a big yellow sign) <drunken adventures
nsh: a insignia thing above this fireplace mantel (shits nasty)
I'd have a much longer list if I was posting things "we wish we had" (I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one)
I seem to only go outa my way to find various oldbottles or things very particular to that site but bottles bieng my pride n joy.
I'd like to throw in my justifications for taking almost everything i do would be nobody's fully appreciating it,removing them does not disturb the buildings structural integrity.
If I'm in an abandoned house I look for diaries and other paper things. So far I have a gardening diary from 1952-1965, a blank desk journal from 1958, and a piece of homework from 1930. Also have a bottle of turpentine from 1939...lol
I have a couple of hymnals from northampton, patient report from worcester and blueprints for grafton (wish I'd grabbed a few more). I'm not one to suggest anyone steal stuff from sites, especially if you have to destroy something to do it . . but I really hate the folks who steal anything they can pry up and throw on eBay. Grabbing a momento for your personal collection is one thing, raping the place to make a few bucks is another.
Donna-Case in point is that bum, the self proclaimed Ladd Curator, he raped the Ladd Center, he stole everything he could find and now either keeps it all to himself or offers you his shit at an outrageous price. What will he steal next?
